Този текст е от учебник за начинаещи до средно ниво говорещи Езика. Нямам пред вид английския. Който се сети, сети за какъв Език става въпрос. Учебникът е стар и е издаден от звено Office of English Language Programs, United States Department of State, с небезизвестния адрес Washington DC 20574. Авторката, учителката Patricia Wilcox Peterson, е подбрала за учениците си поучителни текстове, с които между другото да учи „чужденчетата” и на структури – съдържателни и езикови.
Та ето какво предлага тя:
HEROES AND TALL TALES
Heroes are larger than life. They grow very big, and they become very strong. They do wonderful things.
They drink more and eat more than other people do. They swim better, run faster, throw farther and hit harder. They don’t say much, but they do a lot. They are very independent, too.
Of course, the stories about such heroes aren’t really true. Tall tales about heroes are just stories that people tell for fun.
Та 25 години по-късно от първото издание и хиляди километри надалеч, в напрактика различна „историческа” епоха, аз бих поправила този текст така... по отношение на цирка, който следим последните 8 години на управление ....
Heroes are larger than life. They grow very big, and they become very strong. They do wonderful things.
They drink more and eat more than other people do (Can’t you see it around?) They swim better (no crisis for them), run faster (no recession for them), throw farther (to hide the unpaid and unpayable debts from their successors), and hit harder (rivals and opponents, always below the waist). No matter how long they speak they don’t say much, but they do a lot (mostly mischief and wrong-doing… at the expense of the others).
They are very independent, too. Especially from common sense that doesn’t make sense for them… they have always to be the winners, and somebody else – the common people usually – the losers or their debt-payers .
Of course, the stories about such heroes aren’t really true. The last is a bit exaggerated. Bulgaria has lately been showing the tendency of exceeding anybody’s literary or political imagination!
So the original conclusion: “Tall tales about heroes are just stories that people tell for fun” is not quite the case. Bulgarian politicians still sell tall tales instead of mere truth. However, the overworked and weary people seem to be buying that for … ‘nothing but the truth’.
On second thoughts my personal conclusion might be: Sic Transit Gloria mundi.
